Blase it ain't so

CMJ made me write a top ten list today completely without warning. I am not going to share it until I come up with justification for it. In lieu:

NOTABLE ALBUMS I JUST KIND OF SHRUGGED AT (OR POSSIBLY HEARD NOT A SINGLE NOTE OF) OF 2006:

well...maybe...shrug.
10. Tom Waits - Orphans (look with 3 discs...the last thing I need from Tom is less focus.)
9. Annuals - Be He Me
8. Hot Chip - The Warning ("Over and Over" found not guilty on any count of shrug-ness)
7. Bonnie "Prince" Billy - The Letting Go

...meh.
6. J Dilla - The Shining (dissing on a dead guys album - oh, this will go over well.)
5. Lady Sovereign - Public Warning (blah blah blah indeed.)
4. Danielson - Ships (This is NOT an acceptable uniformed quasi-religious substitute for the Polyphonic Spree. What have you done with them!)
3. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife (Fiction Workshop Boogaloo)

No Seriously You Guys, The Emperor Is Totally Naked
2. The Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury ( To mildly misquote Hef: "I wish Pitchfork would write a rap review without sounding like they have a dick in their mouth the whole time")
1. The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls In America (alright alright, I'm not meh at all - I hate these guys. You could play one of their songs and "Institutionalized" by Suicidal Tendencies back to back and my brow would twitch at exactly the same pissed off frequency for both.)
